Only becuase I don't want my great great grandchildren to think I did not exist...

Normally I don't like being in front of the camera, but every now and then I will venture out and take a self portrait. Here I am in my husband's stunna shades.

Happy Wednesday.

My other passion

One of my greatest passions in life, besides photography, is reading. I absolutely love to read. I mean to me it's not like a summertime love, here for only three months then gone for the rest of the year, or it's not something I do only when there is nothing else to do type of thing. I really LOOve, love to read. I read with the unending passion of one that cannot seemed to be quenched. For a while there, I was not reading, I had stopped so that I could focus on other things and because the books I was interested in as a teenager/young adult (i.e horror) were not of interest to me anymore. Also because it seems like when I do pick up a book, I just cannot. seem. to. put. it. down. Literally. I read while I eat, while I cook, while I feed the baby, right before bed until my eyes cannot take anymore, first thing in the morning, and even in the bathroom. It is almost like the story consumes me and I can't stop until I get to the end. I am always confused when I run into someone that is not a reader (like my husband). I ask them why. Then I explain to them why I love books so much. This is what I say, books are amazing. I mean you can be transported to another world with their words. A good writer can paint a picture so real that you can feel the moist grass under your feet, or smell the hint of lavender in your beloved's hair. It is amazing.
I can usually tell if I am going to like the book within the first few sentences. If you (the writer) can get me in the beginning, then you have got me the whole way through. I used to want to be a librarian as a kid because I thought all they did was read all day. Crazy I know. Then I wanted to write, and I tried a few times. I just never got very far. I do write poetry every now and then. In fact I even read my poetry at a Jazz and Poetry event a couple of years ago, the only problem was I was so nervous reading in front of a crowd, I felt like I was going to puke on the mike. Yeah it was pretty bad. Someone once told me I was going to be a famous writer, I am still honing my skills and waiting for the day.
Anyways, I said all that to say this, pick up a book. It is amazing the places you will go....
Alright, that is my PSA (public service announcemnt) for the day.
PEACE!

My poor blog. I am sorry I have so been neglecting you. Forgive me, I will try and do better....

TTv
TTv stands for Through The Viewfinder. It is a photographic technique that I never knew existed until about 4 weeks ago. What it is, is basically you use your digital camer to take pictures through the viewfinder of another camera. This technique uses two cameras at one time. Alot of people use a Kodak Duaflex or a Brownie Starflex as their bottom cameras, but there are several different ones you can use to get the desired effect. To learn more about TTv check it out here http://www.russmorris.com/ttv/ . After discovering this TTv I decided I wanted to do something like that. I thought the pictures were cool. So I went on ebay and got a Duaflex II for 9 bucks (plus shipping), then it took me about a week, but I constructed a light blocking contracption and I started to take pictures. These are my first two.

Aren't they cool?! Here are some more I have taken over the last few days...

I like it because you can take a picture of basically anything and make it look funky, no matter what the composition.

Stay fresh.

A day like today...

It was one of those days. You know the ones, where summer is just beginning, it is not too hot yet, the kids are out of school, and you could not stand to work one more minute-even if it was for the President. Yes, I had one of those. I had the pleasure of being off with my children, with absolutely nothing to do, and no feeling like I had anything to do, which made it all the more sweeter. I love my kids, and sometimes with work and all that, priorities get a little shifted. But when I am able to just spend time and enjoy them, that is when I am reminded that they are truly gifts, and that God is good, and that we must treasure them for who they are.
Enjoy my loves today as I did that day, and am reminding myself to do everyday.

Eyes so blue you could fall into them. {FYI...I did no post-processing of these eyes, they really are that color!} My bokeh here makes me happy {for those of you that don't know bokeh is the out of focus area in the background.}Makes me want a popsicle, I love her barely there gap, priceless.

Yes it's all hers, no I don't perm it, and yes it is a beast to comb... But I love it. I don't know what it is all for, if not for you three. I love you.

Engagements {Gabe + Jami}

Gabe and Jami have known each other since middle school, and they dated a litte then... but somehow life takes over, and for a time they were separated from one another. She moved to another state and he pursued his dream job. Each building their own separate lives. Then one day they found each other on My Space, got re-acquainted, and from then on decided to create their own space.
Jami and Gabe, I had such a fun time hanging out downtown chronicling your love. Thank you for the chance. I am really excited to photograph your wedding in October. Be blessed!

Love,

j
